If I remember correctly, in Kansas the appliance dollars that came through the weatherization program were gone in less than a week. When these new appliance programs go live, APPLY QUICKLY.

From the KCStar, by Steve Everly:

Missouri and Kansas together will get up to $8.4 million to encourage people to buy energy-efficient appliances.

The U.S Department of Energy made the announcement Tuesday about the federal economic stimulus money, to be used for rebates to consumers.

Missouri is to get up to $5.7 million and Kansas up to $2.7 million as part of the $300 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act program.

Each state has until Oct. 15 to develop details about how its rebate program will work, including which appliances will qualify. They could include air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, freezers, dishwashers, refrigerators and water heaters. The money should be available by the end of the year.

As part of the program, the states agree to provide rebates only for appliances that meet Energy Star specifications for energy efficiency.

Each state will decide the amount of rebate for each category of appliances and draw up a plan for recycling the appliances to be replaced.

From 10 to 25 percent of each award to the states is expected to be spent on administrative expenses.
